Trains powered by batteries will be launched in Italy
Italy's leading railway carrier, Trenitalia, is set to launch 135 tribrid trains. These trains can operate on three power sources - diesel, electricity, or batteries. Battery-powered trips are the most environmentally friendly, as reported by Electrive.
Running on batteries reduces carbon emissions and fuel consumption by half. Moreover, the train's body and interior are made from 93% recyclable materials.
The maximum speed of the train is 160 km/h, and it can travel 15 kilometers on battery power. Initially, the switch to batteries will occur during city trips and approaches.
By 2030, batteries will be improved to power trains for up to a hundred kilometers.
