In California, a five-year-old otter, known as 841, takes surfers' boards and rides them on the waves. Animal and human rescue services closely monitor the animal's "aggressive inclinations."

Authorities are collaborating with the Monterey Bay Aquarium - its staff must capture and study the otter before it finds a new home.

It is still unclear what caused the creature to pursue humans - hormonal surges or constant contact and feeding.

California sea otters, a subspecies of the North American river otter, are fascinating creatures that call the coastal waters of the Golden State their home. Known for their playful antics and exceptional swimming skills, these aquatic mammals are a cherished part of California's diverse marine ecosystem. Equipped with a dense fur coat for insulation against the cold oceanic waters, these otters have a diet primarily consisting of shellfish and small invertebrates. Despite their charming demeanor, they are currently listed as an endangered species, largely due to oil spills, habitat loss, and fishing net entanglements. Conservation efforts are in full swing to protect and increase the population of these delightful creatures.
