Authorities in Dubrovnik have banned the use of wheeled suitcases
Authorities in Dubrovnik have banned the use of wheeled suitcases along the cobbled streets of the old town in order to reduce noise pollution.
This anti-noise initiative is aimed at addressing the complaints of local residents in the resort town, as reported by The Mayor. Tourists will now have to carry their luggage by hand, or face a fine of €265 (approximately 25,000 RUB). Heavy bags can be left outside the historic center in designated zones where it will be delivered to the hotel by electric car.
Under these new regulations, street noise in Dubrovnik must stay under 55 decibels, which is roughly equivalent to the sound of conversation or a not-so-busy street. As a result of this restriction, musicians will have to perform without amplification and restaurants will need to remove speakers and reduce the number of outdoor tables.
