Pimp geek-style with Xbox 360 and PS3 Controller Rings

Posted: December 8th, 2011 | Author: Charles West | Filed under: Art, For The Gamers | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Talk about pimpin’ geek-style, the Xbox 360 and PS3 controller rings is the greatest way to express where your loyalties lie. I’ve heard of street cred, but gaming cred — hmm. If you want to get your geek-on, these rings can be purchased from Etsy seller egyptianruin. The XBox 360 version comes in Pink, Blue, Red (as in “Red Ring”), Green and Halo Green. The PS3 version comes in White, Black, Pink, Blue, Red and Green. They are made from polymer clay and are hand-sculpted.

The person who created these mini works of art can be looked at two ways. First, you can look at the person who hand sculpted these things as an amazing artist, or just a person who has way too much time on their hands. Either or it’s still pretty incredible. These bad boys sale separately and will set you back $10(USD) plus shipping. This would probably be the perfect gift for your geek girlfriend. Source

Hacked Bluetooth Super Nintendo Controller for Android Gaming

Posted: May 23rd, 2011 | Author: Charles West | Filed under: Android, For The Gamers, Hacking | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Just when you thought hackers couldn’t be anymore creative; a hacker by the name of Rich, came up with a design project — which combined the two very things he loved, his Android phone and Super Nintendo. This makes Android gaming a little more excitable, don’t you think?

He [Rich] figured out how the controller’s signaling works, then wired it up to an Arduino Pro Mini 328. The Arduino interprets the SNES controller’s signals, sending them to his Android phone via a BlueSMiRF Bluetooth module. If you found that hard to comprehend, don’t feel bad, because it went way over my head as well.

This hack doesn’t require the rooting of your Android phone, but if you are interested in taking the hacking plunge be prepared to get hands on with some soldering and programming.

Four Questions for the Aspiring Competitive Gamer

Posted: May 17th, 2011 | Author: Justin Robinson | Filed under: For The Gamers | Tags: , | 1 Comment »

So I am back on the Trendaholic after a long hiatus and I am just going to be focusing on video game related content. To start is off lets chat about Competitive gaming. I myself am currently into fighters as my competitive genre  of choice. I have been playing Marvel vs Capcom 3 lately (but aching to get back to SSF4, I have my reasons) Going in to this I basically study the game’s mechanics and match-ups so that I know what I have to do to win in a given situation. It is a lot of work and practice to play a a competitive level.

I came across this article on Shoryuken.com that mirrors the title of this article. So I read the excerpt they posted and continued to read the original post. This is the excerpt that was posted:

“Competition is a wonderful thing. It has the potential to bring out the best in someone, and is what keeps people striving to better themselves even at the top. At some level, we all value competition. It’s evident in the way the human mind works. A certain degree of respect is given to those who have talent or skills in a number of activities, from music, to sports, to academics. Each of these fields have competitions, whether we know of them or not. In each of these worlds, there are people striving to be the best — striving to reach a goal. Whether it be the NBA Championship Ring or a Grammy Award, these people put all they have into the activity of their choice — dedicating their lives to the pursuit of their interest.

In recent years, Competitive Gaming Leagues have become a much more common thing. Much in the same vein as sports leagues, and amateur music competitions such as a “Battle of the Bands”, people have begun to congregate in an attempt to prove their worth and skill. Often, these have culminated in tournaments where the sole purpose of play is simply to seek out the best of the best. However, the world of competition is not for everyone. It takes true dedication and a mindset that simply does not allow one room for compromise. In order to help prepare the aspiring player, I’ve put together a set of four questions that illustrate just the kind of dedication you might need in order to succeed.”

A Mini Cooper Turned Into a High Tech Gaming Chair

Posted: February 25th, 2011 | Author: Charles West | Filed under: Design, For The Gamers | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, out the blue comes another masterfully built work of art. A designer by the name of David Gawthorpe has come up with a pretty creative gaming chair design. If you’re a reader of TTH, then you shouldn’t be the least bit surprised with our appreciation of these types of works.

Remember the article NYC Artist Morphs Hummer H2 Into a “Hoover Cart”? Or how about A Ferrari Seat Morphed Into a Office Chair. Yeah, it’s safe to say we love creative dudes like David. What should be noted is, it took two years to build this chair but in the end Gawthorpe managed to create a luxurious gaming chair out of the front end of a Mini Cooper.

The chair can be tucked away under the hood and the foot pedals slide in underneath the grille.

Other cool features include: a qan Xbox 360, 500-watt amp, strobe and laser lights, a vibration pad under the seat, a mini fridge and even a remote-controlled smoke machine –damn!

The prototype was purchased by a London entrepreneur that plans to sell the chair for £8000 ($12,883) in his shop.

Enter the House of Dead Ninjas

Posted: January 18th, 2011 | Author: Chris MrRager Richard | Filed under: For The Gamers, Reviews | Tags: , , , | 1 Comment »

If there was a movie titled “The House of Dead Ninjas” I would be the first to camp out to see it on opening day, tent and all.  Unfortunately, that slice of cinema greatness doesn’t exist, forcing me on to the next best thing- video games.

Adult Swim has created another masterpiece, in the form of House of Dead Ninjas, a side-scrolling action game of sorts that reflects on a simpler age of 8-bit blood.  Really, there is 8-bit blood splashes that spew out of your enemies as you launch shurikens into them.  There are also bombs; I can’t forget the bombs.

The concept is fairly simple, you’re a ninja who has infiltrated  the Ziggurat of Infinum, a 1000 floor tower where no man or woman who enters finds an exit.  It’s your job to get to the 1000th floor, and seek… well, who knows!  I have yet to get that far.  I think I stalled out on floor 55, but as grueling as it may seem the game is fast, fun, and pretty addictive.  Plus, the soundtrack is reminiscent of old school video game glory, with just a hint of Flying Lotus.

If you have a couple of minutes (or hours) to burn, I encourage you to head over to Adult Swim and give the game a shot.

Just when you thought Angry Birds has lost its momentum, think again. Rovio (Angry Birds parent company) is releasing a board game through toy icon Mattel called Angry Birds: Knock on Wood. The board game will come with 3 Angry Birds figures, 4 pigs, 56 cards, 14 blocks and a slingshot launcher.

Each player must  draw a card, build the structure printed on it, and then their opponent must try to knock it down using the correct supply of birds. The game will hit stores for $15 starting this May.

Kinect Getting Upgraded?

Posted: December 20th, 2010 | Author: Justin Robinson | Filed under: For The Gamers | Tags: , | No Comments »

Kinect is already an amazing peripheral to the Xbox360 console but there are talks of the Kinect camera getting an upgrade already. Currently the resolution of the camera is 320 x 240. The  upgrade will up the camera’s resolution to 640 x 480 at 30 frames per second and a higher data throughput to the Xbox360 to allow it to track fingers and the rotation of your hand. That is pretty awesome. That will just be giving the amazing people that are creating new things for the connect another tool to make even better things for this powerful peripheral.
