Throwback Faceoff: The Hacky Sack vs. Yomega Yo-Yo’s

In a moment of think time (or alone time) I thought about back in the days both before I was a budding teenager and when I became a teenager in what was the “iconic” objects or trends of the times. I thought of both the Hacky sack and Yomega yo-yo’s (Fireball and Brain) then I randomly wanted to put them against each other in the first Throwback Faceoff– our new category putting trends of the past against one another.

I want to start off by saying I was definitely in the Yomega crowd, when I was in middle school from 1996-1999 (yes, I’m a young guy) we were all GEEK-ED OUT on these yo-yo’s from what I can remember they were pretty pricey at the time and I in fact had to trade for my Fireball because I couldn’t afford to pay for one in the store. Walk the dog, the bring thingy and other tricks (that escape me at the moment) were the thing to do.
But as high school crawled around the thing to do was Hacky sack, Hacky sack in class behind the teacher’s back, during lunch in the cafe (if you didn’t get caught) or in the court yard.
Both trends were huge in it’s day (well, in my day) but what I want to know from you guys is what crowd did you role with? Or did you role in both? And if you had to pick what would you say was the better of the two?
Sound off!
