Brooklyn seems to always be in the center of some sort of trend, especially when it comes to an urban movement like hip hop, but in the case of Brooklyn born Theophilus London, he is pioneering a new type of hip hop classified as electro-fueled urban pop.

I must admit people I was late to this movement. I found out about Theophilus when I checked out a interesting year end article from Complex magazine (in December) showing top 25 albums of 2009. That article introduced me to “The Charming Mixtape”, which I love and have been playing ever since.

If you think about it, it is amazing how influential hip hop is, how this mega genre has literally mutated into so many different variations creating off springs of new genres, Theophilus’ mixtape embodies all of what hip hop can form itself into.
